About

  • Do not take aspirin before 3 hours of eating.

  • For chronic allergies do not exercising outside.
  • If you suspect food allergies, stay away from the following foods until you know whether or not they are causing the allergic reaction: beef products, corn, dairy products, white rice, wheat, bananas, eggs, oats, tomatoes, strawberries, caffeine, oysters, refined and processed foods, and citrus fruits.
  • In the late summer the pollen count is at the all-time high between 5:00 am and 10 am.
  • Need to keep home dust free and use air conditioner instead of opening windows.
  • On walls and furniture use a disinfectant and mold proof paints.
  • Stay away from foods with artificial color. FD&C Yellow No.5 dye,
  • Try fasting. After slowly adding back foods you suspect could be a problem, record how they reacted with your system, i.e. bloating, gas, headache, upset stomach, diarrhea, heart palpitations, etc. If you experience negative symptoms, stay away from these foods for 60 days. After 60 days you may slowly incorporate them back into your diet, but if they cause any problems, stay away from them for good.
  • Use an air filter.
  • Use hypoallergenic supplements.
  • Use the under arm test to check your thyroid.
  • Wear long sleeve shirt and pants when outdoors and change clothes and shower when your return to the indoors.

Type: Internal
Purposes: Official Latin name is Boswellia Serrata which comes to us from India. Boswellia is similar to frankincense and can be found throughout Western and Central India. Boswellia has not been shown to have any side effects and can be of great assistance in reducing inflammation & treating allergies.

Ephedra (ma huang)
Type: Internal
Purposes: Ephedra has multiple nomenclatures including Ma Huang, Chinese Ephedra, & epitonin. This herb was discovered by the Chinese over 5000 years ago. It was originally used to treat people with asthma & breathing problems, as well as helping a person get over the common cold.
Cautions: The FDA has banned Ephedra. Purchasing Ephedra in the U.S. is illegal and subject to FDA penalties.

Eucalyptus and/or Thyme Leaves
Type: External
Purposes: Used to break up congestion, as well as to assist clear sinusitis, laryngitis, throat infections, and symptoms of the cold and flu.
Dosage: Heat one cup of water with 1 oz of either herb until boiling. Breathe in the steam for 15 minutes.
Cautions: Be careful not to get so close to the steam that you burn the inside of your nose or eyes.

Eyebright Tea
Type: Internal
Purposes: It has been mentioned that this herb might be used to treat respiratory symptoms, especially runny noses and watery eyes, in children.

Goldenseal
Type: Internal
Purposes: Goldenseal is native to North America and is an excellent source of calcium, iron, manganese, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, B-complex, and other vitamins and minerals. If you take it at the first sign of a cold or flu or other respiratory ailments, this herb can lessen the effects of the illness.
Cautions: Not recommended if you are pregnant, have a history of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or glaucoma. Check with your doctor prior to use. Recommended use is for one week.

Licorice
Type: Internal
Purposes: Licorice can also be called "sweet root" due to one of its ingredients being more than 50 times sweeter than sugar. The Japanese have found through their research that Licorice Root can be used to alleviate many allergic symptoms. The Japanese use the root to fight against allergic pain, heat, redness, & swelling.
Cautions: Can raise blood pressure. Avoid the root if you have already been diagnosed with high blood pressure. Limit your usage to one month at a time.

Stinging nettle
Type: Internal
Purposes: Reduces the swelling of the sinuses. Is considered to be an antioxidant that will prove to be beneficial in treating free radical damage and deter an allergy attack from taking place.

Wild Yam
Type: Internal
Purposes: One claim is that wild yam is a pre-cursor for hormonal production that can actually treat inflammation caused by allergies.
Cautions: The FDA has not evaluated Wild Yam as to its safety, effectiveness, or purity. Contact your doctor prior to using Wild Yam

Yerba Mate
Type: Internal
Purposes: Latin Americans begin their day with a cup of tea of Yerba Maté because (besides being a social habit) it can serve as a reducer of hunger, thirst, & weight gain. In addition, Yerba Maté also has an ingredient called quercetin which is repeatedly used in relieving allergies, asthma, & hay fever.
Dosage: 2-3 teaspoons to 1 cup hot water on an empty stomach

Magnolia Flower (Magnolia liliflora)
Type: Internal
Purposes: Is native to China where it grows profusely allowing the Chinese to totally examine the benefits of all parts of this herb. The Chinese herbalists use the bud to treat ailments of the lungs and aid in the removal of lung congestion, sinus congestion (including clearing up the sinus headaches), as well as aid in treating other chronic lung diseases.

Scutellaria (Scutellaria baicalensis)
Type: Internal
Purposes: Also known as Baikal Scullcap. The Chinese have used this for thousands of years to treat inflammation and fevers. This herb has flavonoids baicalein and antioxidants which have been proven to aid in fighting allergies and free radical damage. This herb can prevent the bronchial tubes from closing during an asthma attack.

Trichosanth (Trichosanthes kirilowii)

Purposes: While there is no evidence to back this up, Trichosanth has been mentioned in company with Scutellaria, Magnolia Flower, & Wild Angelica to treat allergies.

Wild angelica (Angelica dahurica)
Type: Internal
Purposes: Also known as bai zhi. Can assist in alleviating sinus problems. There are about 50 species of Angelica sylvestris. Typically, the root of the plant is used for headaches and sinus difficulties. One of the greatest benefits for people suffering from sinusitis is that bai zhi can relieve the pressure around the eyes that can occur when the frontal sinuses have a blockage. A person will notice reduced swelling, open nasal passages, and drainage of pus that has accumulated with sinus infections. Another added benefit can be the return of normal histamine levels.

Burdock

Purposes: Burdock can be used to treat allergies that are due to seasonal changes

Dandelion
