Bladder Infection (Cystitis)

About
An infection of the bladder caused by bacteria entering the bladder through the urethra, cystitis is more common in women than men because the female urethra is shorter than the male and is closer to the anus.

Notes
  • Make sure you are taking supplements for overall good health. If you are not taking these basic supplements, we recommend Enfuz from Vitabase. When you take a small packet of pills each day, you get all the basic nutrition you need. Each packet contains a multi-vitamin, CoQ10 (for heart health), Omega 3, Vitamin D-3, a probiotic, and a powerful set of antioxidants to help your body fight off disease.
  • A natural broad-spectrum antiseptic that is used to fight infections, reduce inflammation, and aid healing is Colloidal silver. This is a clear golden liquid that is made up of 99.9% of pure silver particles and are suspended in pure water. Colloidal silver can be purchase in health food stores and can be taken by mouth, applied topically, or given intravenously.
  • Best to eliminate caffeine if having bladder problems as the caffeine makes the muscles around the neck of the bladder to contract causing painful spasms. Urinating frequently instead of holding the urine for long periods of time heightens a woman's chances of getting a urinary tract infection, and can even raise the chance of getting bladder cancer.
  • Cadmium, a toxic metal is found from using aluminum cookware. Cystitis symptoms and urinary problems can be caused by using this cookware.
  • Check with your physician to rule out food allergies as these symptoms are similar to bladder infection symptoms. By addressing these allergies the guilty foods can be identified and eliminated from the diet.
  • Due to the reduction of estrogen in the body during menopause the urethral and vaginal membranes shrink. This may heighten the risk for developing bladder infections. May need to have the Urethral dilated to stretch the contracted urethra.
  • If cystitis keeps returning a Cystoscopy (visual examination of the bladder) may be needed. This would find any problems such as bladder cancer, immune deficiency, or an anatomical anomaly. Excellent immune function is tantamount in battling and stopping bacterial infections.
  • Treatment of cystitis by use of antibiotics and analgesics should be avoided and used only when absolutely necessary. It has been discovered that overuse of these may actually cause infections to return as they promote the growth of antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria. Due to the fact that our bodies have become resistant to antibiotics, like sulfa drugs and tetracycline, physicians are having to prescribe more potent and dangerous antibiotics. A more natural treatment for bladder infections should be tried first.

Cranberry juice also decreases the recurrence of urinary stones and urinary odor. Benzoic acids of the cranberry are converted to hippuric acid and eliminated in the urine. The effect of cranberry juice in lowering urine pH and increasing its hippuric acid content makes it an inexpensive agent for treating acute urinary infections.
