Glaucoma

About
Increased intra ocular pressure that can result in optic nerve damage and loss of sight.

Notes
  • Make sure you are taking supplements for overall good health. If you are not taking these basic supplements, we recommend Enfuz from Vitabase. When you take a small packet of pills each day, you get all the basic nutrition you need. Each packet contains a multi-vitamin, CoQ10 (for heart health), Omega 3, Vitamin D-3, a probiotic, and a powerful set of antioxidants to help your body fight off disease.
  • 40% percent of patients that have the surgery do not have any improvement and 15% have a decrease in the quality after surgery.
  • Bioflavonoid Supplement helps decrease ocular pressure.
  • Do not dilate your pupils.
  • For people with Glaucoma you need to stay away from Corticosteroids.
  • Glaucoma does not have a cure.
  • Laser surgery can be used to drain the fluid in the eyes.
  • The best prevention is routine eye exams.
  • To lower your intraocular pressure try Vitamin C.
  • Types of eye drops and other medicine available for Glaucoma is Miotics, Epinephrine, Carbonic, beta blockers, and prostaglandin.
  • Use eye drops to control the intraocular pressure. If it does not control the intraovular pressure surgery is performed to open blocked drainage channels.

Advice
  • Do not take more than 200 mg daily of niacin.
  • Get regular exercise to help alleviate some of the intraocular pressure (in those with open-angle glaucoma).
  • If your eyes are stressed from a lot of television viewing, reading, or computer work, make sure to look away every 20 minutes to give them a break.
  • Incorporate necessary supplements into your diet.
  • Liquids should be consumed in small amounts.
  • Stay away from alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, coffee, and tobacco smoke.
  • Those taking eye drops to relieve intraocular pressure should be sure they are taking them properly. Have someone watch you or ask your ophthalmologist for instructions on proper use. Make sure the eyes are getting the medication. To help with absorption, close your eyes for a minute after using the eye drops.
  • Use medications prescribed by your ophthalmologist. Vitamin C is helpful, too, but should only be taken in conjunction with doctor's instructions.
