  • During an outbreak, the following can be beneficial: barley, almonds, cashews, grains, chocolate, corn, dairy products, nuts and seeds, chicken, meat, oats, and peanuts. Use in moderation. The L-arginine in these will help slow the growth of the virus.
  • Ice packs in the genital area will help alleviate pain and swelling. For relief of itching, try bathing in warm water and Epsom salts or baking soda. Pat dry.
  • Intercourse should be limited to times of inactive lesions.
  • Stay away from colas, white flour, processed foods, sugar, alcohol, refined carbohydrates, coffee, and drugs. Drink only herbal teas.
