High Cholesterol

Advice
  • Avoid gravies, nondairy creamers, refined foods, alcohol, cakes, candy, tea, refined carbohydrates, pies, processed foods, tobacco, carbonated drinks, coffee, or white bread.
  • Certain foods can help reduce cholesterol: bananas, cold-water fish, carrots, apples, garlic, dried beans, olive oil, and grapefruit.
  • Cut out most of your saturated fats and cholesterol. Foods to be avoided include coconut oil, palm kernel oils, animal fats, margarine, lard, butter, pork, fried foods, and fatty foods. Nonfat milk, skinless white poultry, and low-fat cottage cheese are acceptable in medium portions.
  • Exercise in moderation. You and your doctor should figure out a plan that will work for you.
  • Fiber is an important part of your diet. Fiber can be obtained through whole grains (barley, oat bran, and brown rice), fruits, and vegetables. Guar gum, glucomannan, and beans are also helpful. Supplemental fiber should be taken separately from other supplements and medication.
  • Fresh juice from carrots, beets, and celery is recommended. Carrot juice reduces cholesterol levels by getting rid of bile in the liver.
  • Once a month, hold to a fast of spirulina and celery juice, carrot juice, or lemon in distilled water.
  • Stay away from stress and tension.
  • Unrefined cold-pressed or expeller-pressed oils are best. Vegetable oils from soybeans, flaxseed, primrose, and black currant seeds are recommended. Olive oil is best.
  • Unsalted almonds and walnuts are the only beneficial nuts.
