Hypothyroidism

About
Too little thyroid hormone. Symptoms include weight gain, constipation, dry skin, and sensitivity to the cold. Also called underactive thyroid.

Notes
  • Make sure you are taking supplements for overall good health. If you are not taking these basic supplements, we recommend Enfuz from Vitabase. When you take a small packet of pills each day, you get all the basic nutrition you need. Each packet contains a multi-vitamin, CoQ10 (for heart health), Omega 3, Vitamin D-3, a probiotic, and a powerful set of antioxidants to help your body fight off disease.
  • Have a thyroid test to rule out intolerance to sugar, menopause and depression.
  • Lithium can cause thyroid malfunction.
  • Prescription drugs are available through a doctor.
  • Under active thyroid can make you more at risk for heart attack.

Advice
  • Calcarea carbonica is a homeopathic remedy that can boost thyroid function.
  • Certain medications can react to thyroid medication and should be taken separately. The following medications/supplements should not be taken with thyroid medication: carbonate supplements, calcium supplements, Sucralfate, aluminum hydroxide, cholestyramin, and colestipol.
  • Consume only steam-distilled water.
  • Moderate portions of these foods are acceptable: Brussels sprouts, broccoli, peaches, pears, mustard greens, turnips, spinach, radishes, cabbage, and kale. Those with severe hypothyroidism should not eat these at all.
  • Only take sulfa drugs or antihistamines if prescribed by a doctor.
  • Start a regular exercise routine. Yoga and walking are recommended.
  • Stay away from fluoride and chlorine, along with anything that may contain them (tap water, toothpaste, etc.) They may contribute to hypothyroidism.
  • Stay away from processed and refined foods, white flour, and sugar.
  • The following foods should be a part of your diet: fish, chicken, raw milk, apricots, dates, egg yolks, raw cheeses, potatoes, prunes, parsley, molasses, whole grains, and raw seeds.
