Prostatitis/Enlarged Prostate

About
An inflamed prostate is known as Prostatitis. Acute infectious prostatitis, chronic infectious prostatitis, and non-infectious prostatitis are the three different kinds of this disorder. Frequent or painful urination, pain following ejaculation, or pain in the lower abdomen may be indicators of prostatitis. Enlargement of the prostate is called Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy. Symptoms include painful or frequent urination, blood in the urine, and bladder infections.

Notes
  • Make sure you are taking supplements for overall good health. If you are not taking these basic supplements, we recommend Enfuz from Vitabase. When you take a small packet of pills each day, you get all the basic nutrition you need. Each packet contains a multi-vitamin, CoQ10 (for heart health), Omega 3, Vitamin D-3, a probiotic, and a powerful set of antioxidants to help your body fight off disease.
  • Annual rectal exams and examination of the prostate gland is recommended for men over 40.
  • Antibiotics can help treat bacterial prostatitis, but will not help noninfectious prostatitis.
  • Do not use antibiotics for a long period of time as they can damage your body.
  • Finasteride may help boost flow of urine and may shrink prostate size. Side effects may include decreased libido, impotency, and possible misreading of prostate cancer blood tests.
  • Make sure you are getting appropriate amounts of zinc in your diet (should stay under 100 mg daily). Brewer's yeast is a good source of zinc. Avoid alcohol as it can bring about lack of zinc. The immune system will suffer if you consume too much zinc.
  • Prazosin, terazosin, and doxazosin may help shrink the size of the prostate because they are alpha-blockers.
  • Prostate disorders may be related to vasectomies for sterilization.
  • Prostatitis may be linked to gout. Both of these disorders come from not being able to handle uric acid properly.
  • Surgery is available to treat an enlarged prostate, but most or all procedures could come with consequences. Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) may cause retrograde ejaculation (semen going into the bladder), incontinence, or impotency. Transurethral vaporization (TVP) and transurethral incision of the prostate (TUIP) are also available.
  • Those with infected prostates may need antibiotics and analgesics.
  • While the prostate in infected, it is wise to avoid sexual intercourse in order to avoid increased irritation.
  • Your doctor can prescribe leuprolide injections to help reduce prostate size. Impotency, lost libido, and hot flashed may result from using this prescription.

  • Avoid alcoholic drinks, tobacco, junk food caffeine, spicy foods, and chlorinated water.

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Eat pumpkin seeds everyday 1-4oz..
